Major League Baseball Player. For eight seasons (1950, 1952 to 1956), he played at the second base, shortstop and third base positions with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs. Born Robert Morris Morgan, he made his initial imprint on the baseball diamond during his early youth when he played with the local YMCA Little League. Following high school graduation, he played baseball in the American Legion, prior to serving with the United States Army during the closing months of World War II. After four years in the Minor Leagues, Morgan made his Major League debut with the Dodgers on April 18, 1950 and played in 67 games that year. He experienced two pennant-winning years with Brooklyn (1952 and 1953) and appeared in 2 games, one game per World Series against the New York Yankees. After he was acquired by the Phillies, his playing time increased as he produced career-highs with 119 hits and 50 RBIs in 1954. In 671 career regular season games, he compiled 487 hits with a .233 lifetime batting average. He played several more years of Minor League baseball, before serving as a Minor League manager. He served as a scout with the Kansas City Royals and managed a restaurant in his hometown of Oklahoma City.
