Mamie James Ragland was born in Halifax County, VA on October 16, 1933 and departed this life on March 16, 1993 at Duke Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Susie James. She was educated in the public schools of Halifax County and was employed by Burlington Industries. At an early age, she confessed her faith in Christ and joined the Piney Grove Baptist Church. In 1951 she was united in marriage to Charlie L. Ragland. To this union three children were born. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of the home, three daughters, Susan Harper; Charlene Ragland; Vonda Ragland; one sister, Susie Betts; one brother, Charlie James; two step-sisters, Gertrude Clay and Elizabeth Carr, and one step-brother, Farmer James; one son-in-law, Tyrone Harper, three grandchildren - Shanda Ragland, Tern and Chris Harper, two sisters-in-law, Lucille Ragland; and Lillian Marable; two brothers-in-law, Wilton Ragland, and John Marable, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Services held at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Scottsburg, Friday, March 19, 1993.
