Dennis Jay Abbey "Jay Bird" of Winona, Missouri, was born on September 7, 1955, in Red Bud, Illinois, the son of the late Charles E. Abbey and Cheryl Jean (Reynolds) Abbey Haskell. Jay, known to his friends and family, passed away on August 11, 2023, having reached the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 5 days.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marlene; two daughters, Vanessa and Amanda Abbey; bonus son, Jared Self; three brothers, Doyle Abbey and wife, Betty, Eugene Abbey and wife, Marsha, and Mark Abbey and wife, LeAnn; one sister, Rebecca Abbey; six precious grandchildren, Loggin, Junior, Jayden, Jaslen, Joel, and Joshua; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Abbey; sister, JoAnn Abbey; and sister-in-law, Diane Abbey Stanley.

Jay was the owner and creator of "Smoke Canyon" sauce. He was very proud of the delicious flavor.

Interment will be in Horner Cemetery, Winona.
