Son of Daniel and Phebe (Waterman) Adgate. Married Mary Westcott on Oct. 25, 1788 at the First Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Adgate was founder of the Uranian Academy, an organization established to promote church music, and was a friend and associate of Azarian Horton, Jr., who served as Treasurer of the Academy (and who also died in 1793). Aged 31 years. Died of Yellow Fever during the 1793 epidemic in Philadelphia.
Originally interred with his mother in the Second Presbyterian burial ground on Arch Street. Removed to Mount Vernon Cemetery when the churchyard was vacated in 1867.∼1793, 1 October
