Having been present at San Clemente since 1667, when Pope Urban VIII gave them both the Basilica and the surrounding buildings, the remains of the Irish Dominicans who passed away through the centuries in Rome, where laid to rest in a collective vault underneath the main altar when the Paleochristian Basilica was uncovered by own of its members, Father Joseph Mullooly. The transportation of remains took place on October 6, 1867.
