Sister Adeline Prokes, resident at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, died Sunday, September 3, 2023. Born to Wesley and Lillian Prokes on July 9, 1917, in Jackson, Minnesota, Adeline was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and graduated from Jackson High School in the class of 1934.
During her 106 years of earthly life, Sister Adeline served many, professionally and personally. Her bachelor's degree from Mt. Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and an M.A. degree from Marquette University, enabled her to serve as a speech therapist in several schools, and to conduct Community Theater in the Omaha, Nebraska area, where performances were presented on the Boystown, Nebraska, stage. She also wrote the script for an unpublished play.
A woman of deep faith, Sister Adeline received the Rite of Consecration of a Virgin in Omaha, on June 17, 1955. Over her lifetime, she was associated with several religious communities, and in her home sponsored religious discussion and prayer groups. She provided devoted care for her elder parents until their deaths in Mankato, Minnesota. Four siblings have predeceased her: Helen, Mother Dorothy, FSE, Father Francis, SJ, and Mother Stephen, OSB. Her youngest sibling, Sister Mary Timothy, FSE, is currently a member of her Community in Falls Church, Virginia.
Sister Adeline's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2023 at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel in Sleepy Eye with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Mankato Mortuary handling arrangements.
