Longtime Soldotna resident Marilyn Jones died Aug. 21, 1996, at Central Peninsula General Hospital due to complications resulting from a stroke. She was 49. Visitation was at Peninsula Memorial Chapel. A funeral was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 155 Marydale, in Soldotna, with a brief viewing. Burial followed services at Kasilof Cemetery with Bishop Robert Meyer officiating.
Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Cedar City, Utah. Raised in Enterprise, Utah, she married Dallas Jones at St. George Latter-day Saints Temple upon graduation from Dixie High School on Dec. 29, 1964. In 1967, shortly after the birth or their first son, they moved to Soldotna. Mrs. Jones was an active member of the LDS church, serving in various primary, relief society and visiting teaching positions. She also loved music, arts and crafts, and bowling. Her family said: ''Marilyn was very dedicated to her family and made sure that her family remained her first priority. Marilyn was a active supporter of all her children's school and sports activities. Marilyn made a commitment to her family to always be available for her family needs.''
She is survived by her husband, Dallas of Soldotna; son, DeRay of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Becky, and children, Jessica, Jordan and Bailey; son, Darby of Soldotna; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Emily, and daughters, Alexus, of St. George, Utah, and Kimberly and Angela;brothers, H. Deon Holt of California and Gary Holt of Alabama; sister, Lana Gale Esplin of Idaho; brother, Jack Holt of Utah; and sister, Jan Larson of Utah. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Adams Holt, and mother, Verna Burnham Holt of Utah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Jones Family, P.O. Box 1346, Soldotna 99669.
