De Abbott, age 82, of Peotone, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

He was born in Peoria, Illinois on September 24, 1941, the son of Otis and Lennie Abbott. On July 13, 1963, he married his beloved wife, Jenny Bauer, at First Baptist Church in Tinley Park. Following De's service in the United States Army, he was retired from General Motors, and spent most of his life devoted to his faith and caring for the families his churches served. He served as an Associate Pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Country Club Hills for almost 30 years. Following his retirement in 2004, he became a member of the First Baptist Church of Manteno, serving a variety of positions with his wife, Jenny. In 2015, he began his service as the Associate Pastor, which was his most recent position.

In his younger years, he loved helping his friends by installing ceiling fans and garage openers for anyone and everyone. De enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He really loved to make banana bread, pumpkin bread, and peanut butter bars that he would send home with his family and friends when they would come to visit.

De is survived by his dear wife of 60 years, Jenny Abbott; two daughters, Marcia (Tim) Kennedy and Sandi (Mark) Layton; one sister, Linda (Steve) Ricketts; three grandchildren, Connor Kennedy, Alex Layton, and Tabitha Eliasen; and four great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Wyatt, Selah, and Emma Eliasen.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Lennie Abbott.

Visitation for De will be held at First Baptist Church of Manteno on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 4:00PM – 8:00PM. Visitation will continue the next day from 9:30AM until the service at 10:30AM, officiated by Pastor David Peterman. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at church. Following the luncheon, De will be laid to rest at Skyline Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Manteno.
