Wife of Tildon Montgomery and mother of Mary, Brooks and Ruth Montgomery.

Daughter of William H. and Martha Ann Fowler Hart.

Granddaughter of Elizabeth Hart of South Carolina.

Laura was born November 13, 1878 and was listed in 1880 census as living in Marion County, Georgia. She was listed as being Laura L. Hart and living with her parents, William H. and Martha Hart, along with siblings, John 21, Leander (Henry) 19, Elizabeth 18, William 13, Thomas 11, Mary 10, and West China (?) 8, Leonard, 6, Lou H. 4, and Penie L, 3.

On January 7, 1898, in Taylor County, Laura married a farmer, O. K. Tilden Montgomery. A year later, the couple was found living in the Howard, GA area. And still there, ten years later, they had two children, Brooks, as son of 9 and Ruth who was six. Also living with them was her mother, Martha Hart, who was approx. 70 years old.

Sometime prior to 1920 the family moved across the county line into the Ft. Perry, Marion Co., GA area where they are mentioned in the 1920 census. By this time, their daughter Ruth had married Jack Turner and lived in the next farm down. Ruth had married at the age of 15 or 16. Living with Laura and Tilden at this time was their son Brooks and his new wife, Mary

The couple was next seen as living on the Junction City-Mauk Road in what was termed the Rustin District, Taylor Co., GA and still farming. Their children are now all moved out and there is left only a black servant named Acey Jackson, 55 years old.

Laura died on November 8, 1953 and is buried here in Pine Level Cemetery, Taylor Co., GA beside her husband who died in 1935.

The following obituary appeared in the Butler Herald newspaper dated November 12, 1953:

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR
MRS. LAURA MONTGOMERY
AT MAUK MONDAY P.M.

At the local hospital, 1:15 am Sunday occurred the passing on of Mrs. Laura Montgomery of Mauk following an illness of one week.
The deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. William Hart and the late Mrs. Martha Hart of Taylor county and where the deceased was born Nov. 13, 1878. She was the wife of Tildon Montgomery deceased, of Taylor county.
She was a devout Christian member of the Mauk Methodist church.
Funeral services occurred Monday afternoon, 2:30 o'clock at the Montgomery home at Mauk with impressive rites being conducted by her pastor, Rev. H.O. Hatcher, including interment in the family lot Pine Level cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers, Byron Montgomery, Harmon Montgomery, Cecil Montgomery, Oscar Gilbert, Jimmie Turner and Newell Montgomery.
Edwards Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The following grandchildren survive: Miss Reba Lou Turner, Jimmie Turner, Cecil Montgomery, Douglas Turner, Mrs. James Brown, Mrs. M.E. Tyler and Mrs. M.K. Burchel.
