Wife of Merritt LOVE

Gilroy Advocate dated Saturday, January 11, 1919
The Death Toll Continues; Young and Old Are Taken
Mrs. Annie Love
A well known character passed from life last Saturday morning in the person of Mrs. Annie Love, widow of the late Merritt Love. Mrs. Love had been a resident of Gilroy for over half a century. She came to Gilroy when a young woman, and with her husband conducted a hotel for a number of years. Later Mr. Love had charge of racing stock belonging to the late James P. Sargent, and moved to Sargent, where the couple lived for several years, later moving to the house at the north end of Hanna street near the Bodfish road. Mr. Love was one of the best horsemen in the state, and in the palmy racing days was quite a prominent citizen. He died several years ago, and his widow has made her home on north Eigleberry street. She was a very interesting woman, and in years gone by was called upon at many a public affair to "tell fortunes" at which she was most apt. She was a very charitable woman, and kind to neighbors and friends. She was a native of Ireland aged about 80 years. Her death was due to the infirmities of age. She was the last of her clan and leaves two nephews and one niece, namely, John and Ivy Fulton of Oakland, and Mrs. Jennie Howard of San Francisco, who came to Gilroy to attend the funeral on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The body was laid beside her husband in the plot in the Masonic & Odd Fellows cemetery, where the late Ed J. Bryant, a pioneer milk dealer of this city, is also buried by the side of his old friend. May she rest in peace.
