Matched by his will and probate as the last of the name de Stainforth of the manor near Giggleswick, with the earlier name variation as Stainford.

Giggleswick Church has chantries of Our Lady called Stainford Chantry founded by Robert Stainford (i.e. the Robert de Stainforth) and Tempest's Chantry found by Sir Richard Tempest, matching as his son-in-law (The History of Craven p172)

Robert's will was dated 16 Mar 1390/91 with probate 'apparently dated' 31 Mar 1391

The will named his daughters Margaret and Agnes without showing if they were married, though he added, "Also I bequeath to the daughter of Richard Tempest 100 marks at her marriage if she should be married, or to the daughters of the said Richard Tempest or to the sons of the same." The residue of his estate to go to Richard Tempest knight and to the abbot of Sallay (Sawley) "so that they shall ordain and dispose for my soul as is best." Richard Tempest, knight, and John de Standon were named as his executors.

In Aug 1382, Robert de Staynforth witnessed a a grant from John son of Sir Richard Tempest of Studley to Sir Richard Tempest of Bracewell. (The then deceased Sir Richard Tempest of Studley was the great uncle of the son-in-law, Sir Richard Tempest of Bracewell.)
