Miriam A. Green was born on January 15, 1838, according to Green Mount cemetery records. She was the daughter of Thomas S. and Mary Hall Green.

According to the 1850 Federal census, Thomas S. Green, listed as a merchant, age 38, was residing in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. His wife must have died before 1850 as only four children were listed as residing with him: Maria A. Green, age 10 (likely Miriam); Thomas H. Green, age 10; Julia Green, age 7; and Mary W. Green, age 3.

The family was residing in Queen Anne's county, according to the 1860 Federal census. Thomas S. Green, age 48, was listed as a farmer. Living with him were three children: Mary A. Green, age 21; Thomas H. Green, age 20; and Julia Green, age 16. Mary W. Green was not listed and perhaps had passed away, and may be listed on her mother's headstone.

Miriam Green and William Alexander married circa 1860 – 1862, but no records have yet been located. Their one child, Robert Alexander, was born on October 17, 1863, in Baltimore, Maryland.

William Alexander, age 56, an attorney-at-law, and wife Marian (Miriam) Alexander, age 32, were residing in Baltimore, Maryland, with their son Robert Alexander, age 6.

William Alexander died on February 14, 1874, in Baltimore, Maryland, and was buried at Green Mount Cemetery, in Baltimore.

In the 1870 Federal census, Thomas Green, age 58, now an Episcopalian minister and farmer was living in Queen Anne's County, with his daughter Julia Green, age 25.

According to the 1880 Federal census, Mirial (Miriam) A. Green (Alexander), age 42, and her son Robert, age 16, were living in Church Hill, Queen Anne's County, with her father, Thomas Green, age 68, and daughter/sister, Julia Green, age 35. Thomas Green was a minister and farmer.

Thomas S. Green died on May 15, 1886, and was buried at Saint Luke's Episcopal Parish Cemetery, Church Hill, Maryland.

At an unknown date, Miriam Alexander remarried to a Mr. Barcus. Searches in the 1880 Federal census lists a Barcus family living in Church Hill, Maryland, headed by William Barcus, age 60, a widower (his wife had died in 1865). He had three daughters and two sons in their early twenties or late teens living with him. William Barcus was a miller. He died in 1892. Possibly Miriam Alexander and William Barcus married, perhaps after 1886.

In the 1900 Federal census, Miriam A. Barcus, age 63, was living with her sister, Julia Marshall, age 55, and her husband Thomas Beard Marshall, age 74, in Baltimore, Maryland. Living with them were Thomas Byn Marshall, Jr, age 19, and Miriam Marshall, age 16. Julia Green and Thomas B. Marshall had married in 1883.
