John D. Duke Funeral Held

CARTHAGE, (Spl).—Services were held at the Hawthorn Chapel Saturday for John Delmer Duke, 89, who died at his home in Carthage Friday following an illness of long standing.

Officiating ministers for the services were the Rev. J. M. Goode, Dr. V. L. McKee and the Rev. Albert McCullin. Burial was in the Clayton Cemetery under direction of the Hawthorn Funeral Home. Pallbearers included John Bernard Duke, Barney Duke, Kilby Ross, Tom Travis [Wall], Emory Wall and Roy Duke.

A native of the county, Mr. Duke was a farmer in the Clayton community for many years and served as County Commissioner at one time. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Mollie Lee Chadwick; two daughters, Mrs. Lee Dennard and Mrs. Carl Marshall, all of Carthage; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
