A summary of Oscar's life as provided by daughter Olean.
Dad was born and raised in Spangler. Dad was one of 5 children and was baptized March 13, 1894.

After they were married, mom and dad moved to "Ivyside Cottage" (Jotten's house), Dorothy was born here. They then moved to Red Hill, where Eddie and Morg were born. They then moved to our homestead in Juniata Gap and built the barn; Mary was born there, they lived there until the house was built. Dad, Grandpap, and Uncle Walt built our house; after that they built what is now Bothwells, for Uncle Walt and Aunt Jenny.

Daddy was a machinist for the PA railroad, where he worked in the Juniata Shops on a milling machine. Our seven-acre homestead had a nice sized fruit orchard and we always had a large garden with a variety of fruits and vegetables. We canned thousands of jars each year. We always had a cow, chickens and pigs and a workhorse instead of a tractor. We were fairly self-sufficient as far as good goes.

Mom and Dad joined a religious order in St. Jovite, Canada, about 1967; they lived there until they died.
