John was principally a globe maker but also described as an artist, draftsman, map and chart seller, copperplate engraver, and instrument maker.
He was principal of the firm J. Addison & Co., which in 1825, did business at No. 50 London Street, FitzRoy Square, in London.
His company produced globes of various sizes including the famous 36 inch globe, possibly the largest made in the nineteenth century.
He was listed as globe maker of 'His Majesty George IV'.
