SHREVEPORT - Lane Jefferson Rice, 42, native of Shreveport, died Friday, May 14. He was the son of Martha Jones Rice and the late Dr. Irwin Jefferson Rice. He is survived by his mother, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Marshall Carl and Ellen H Rice and James Alexander and Susan Elgin Rice; nieces Jennifer, Susannah, Mary Beth and Martha Frances Rice; nephews, Marshall, Joel and Alex Rice, Jr; great-aunt, Mrs. Jeff Sutton and two uncles, James Marshall and Carl Wiley Jones.

Mr. Rice was a graduate of C E Byrd High School and Louisiana Tech and he took a course, Education for Ministry offered by the School of Theology at the University of the South, Sewanee. Mr. Rice was a Realtor with Walter Hawkins Company.

He was a member of the Church of the Holy Cross Episcopal where he taught the Evergreen Church School Class and was a member of the choir.

Funeral services, including a Requiem Mass, will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, May 18, at St. Mark's Cathedral. The clergy officiating include The Very Reverend M L Agnew, Jr, Dean of St. Mark's Cathedral, The Reverend Kenneth W Paul, Rector of The Church of the Holy Cross, The Reverend Donald Heacock, Curate and Director of Community Services at the Church of the Holy Cross and The Reverend Canon Frank E Wilson of St. Mark's Cathedral. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Vincent Rice, Gary Embrey, Marshall Jones, C D Gwin, Philip Westbrook, David Jones, Dr. Barry Osherowitz and Reece Middleton.

Honorary pallbearers are John Baldwin, Jack Elgin, Dr. Herbert Tucker, Dr. Charles Black, Dr. Charles Poole, Sam Vedlitz, Walt Bruening, Dr. Charles Rice and Joe Rice.

Memorials in his honor may be sent to the Church of the Holy Cross or the Sarah Special Child Fund.
