Jimmie Roger Ansell, born 12/22/1946 in Carlinville, IL the son of Lester and Letha (Field) Ansell, passed away at 9:45 AM at Mercy Health.
He grew up in Brighton, IL and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1964. Jim joined the Navy as a Seabee in 1966 and served three tours in Vietnam. Jim worked at the Alton Boxboard until 1971, when he began working on the river. He worked the river industry most of his career, retiring in 2012. Jim enjoyed woodworking, boating, and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karen, his daughter Kimberly of Alton, IL, his grandchildren Chelsea (Adam) Joyce, Jennie (Tyler) Schroeder, Jimmie Overholtzer and Jessica Overholtzer. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Kay Ansell and Eileen Ansell, and by three brothers-in-law, Stewart (Sharon) Brown, Jonathan (Vicki) Brown, and Joel (Cathy) Brown, and several nieces and nephews. He was looking forward to welcoming a great grandbaby in May of 2024.
Jim is predeceased by five brothers, Lester, Sidney, Gene, Fred, and Lawrence, and by three sisters-in-law, Lola, Mary, and Twyla. As per his wishes, Jim will be cremated, and there will be no services. Friends are asked to send memorials in his name to one of two animal shelters: McCracken County Humane Society, 4000 Coleman Rd, Paducah, KY 42001 or the 5 A's Animal Shelter, 4530 N. Alby, Godfrey, IL 62035.
