A retired welder for Norfolk & Western Railway, he was born at Brewster, a son of the late George and Mary Carroll Smith. He had lived most of his life in the Brewster-Beach City area.
On July 22, 1962, he married the former Patricia Ott, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter and two sons, Becky Yoder of Millersburg, Jeff Smith of Germany and George Hershberger of Navarre; three sisters and two brothers; and six grandchildren.
Rev. Sandra Hutchinson will officiate at services Monday at 11 in Spidell Funeral Home at Brewster. Burial will be in Welty Cemetery near Brewster. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 at the funeral home.
