SHREVEPORT – Graveside services for Mrs. Emma Pitts Rice, 89, of Shreveport, will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, October 22 at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel. The Rev. Carl E. Rhoads, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate, assisted by Dr. D. L. Dykes, pastor emeritus of the church. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Rice, a member of a Caddo Parish pioneer family and longtime resident of Shreveport, died Wednesday, October 21, 1987, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in Roseville, Ark.

Mrs. Rice was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women and a charter member of the original Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was a former board member of the Genevieve Orphanage and a member of the Petroleum Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Rice, and a son, Vincent Douglas Rice, Sr.

She is survived by two sons, Winston C Rice and Dr. Irwin J Rice, of Shreveport; seven grandsons, Marshall Carl Rice, James Alexander Rice, Vincent Douglas Rice, Jr., Winston Edward Rice, Dr. Joe Crosby Rice, Dr. Charles Jefferson Rice and Lane Jefferson Rice; a granddaughter, Priscilla Ann Rice McLean; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and Robert Myers McLean.
