Anne Franklin Speer
April 24, 1926 - October 3, 2023

Columbus, Georgia - Anne Franklin Speer, 97, of Columbus, GA, died on October 3, 2023 in Columbus, Georgia.

Anne was born in Thomaston, GA, in 1926 to the late Thomas Alton Franklin and Ida Boggs Franklin. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1943 and later moved to Atlanta, GA, with her sister, Sis, in search of better job opportunities and to attend night classes at Georgia State University. Anne met the love of her life, Coleman Speer, and married him in 1959.

After moving to Americus, GA, with her husband, Coleman, Anne worked at Manhattan Manufacturing and IMC Chemical Corporation. She retired from IMC and then went to work as a volunteer for Hospice of Americus and Sumter County in 1992. She worked her way up to Executive Director of Hospice and held that position until 2011, when she retired for the second time at age 85. She volunteered for The Order of the Eastern Star, The American Legion, and was a devoted visitor to the elderly at Magnolia Manor nursing home, where she adopted Esther, Janie, and Minnie as her own family members. She attended Lee St. UMC in Americus, GA, for over 50 years, then St. Peter UMC and St. Mark UMC in Columbus, GA.

Anne was incredibly close to her sister, Sis, and her niece, Brenda, and great-nephew, Andrew. After her sister's death in 1997, she treated Brenda and Andrew like daughter and grandson. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them on countless trips across the States and cruises to international waters. She especially looked forward to when Andrew would live with her during the summers. Anne's relocation to Columbus, GA, in 2012, in proximity to Brenda and Andrew, allowed her to revel in frequent weekend visits and partake in special holiday gatherings with them. She also took pleasure in gardening, word search puzzles, fine dining with Andrew, and captivating outings to plays and musicals.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her, husband, Coleman Speer, siblings, Wilmoth (Sis) Franklin Couch, Andy Franklin, Joe Franklin, Percy (Putt) Franklin, and Fred Franklin.

She is survived by her niece, Brenda Zimmerman, great-nephew, Andrew Zimmerman, nieces, Bessie, Sandra, Angela, Pat, Judy, Laura, Connie, nephews, James, Tommy, Frankie, as well as many other family members and friends.
