Lillian M. Null, 103, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 12, 2023 at the Hershey (PA) Medical Center following complications from a leg fracture. Lillian was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on December 24,1919, to Chalmers E Gruber, Sr. and Rosaline Shantz Gruber. She lived most of her adult life in Wayne Heights, Pennsylvania, after marrying H. Richard "Bub" Null, on September 17, 1938. Lillian and Bub had four daughters: Carol, Sharon, Almeda ("Medie") and Kimberly ("Kim"). Preceding Lillian in death were her husband, H. Richard Null, on February 11, 1994 and daughter, Carol A. Christensen, on February 1, 2011, her brother, Chalmers "Mike" Gruber, her sister, Dorothy "Dot" Lushbaugh, and her half-brothers, James "Butch" Gruber and Donald "Donnie" Kline. Surviving Lillian are daughters, Sharon L. Warner of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, Almeda M. Birely of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, and Kimberly S. Gray, of Phoenixville, PA. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Shawn Sprenkle of Hagerstown, Maryland; Cameron Manahan of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Megan Warner of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; Erin Best of Glen Allen, Virginia; and Josh Warner of Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania. Lillian was blessed to have eight great-grandchildren (Joshua Sprenkle, Brandi Sprenkle, Ryan Best, Kyle Best, Melodie Martinez, Harmonie Martinez, Benjamin Warner and Adrienne Warner) and two great-great-grandchildren (Luke Sprenkle and Charlotte Sprenkle), who survive her. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, with a special nod to Granis (and Wayne) Dixon, who offered special attention and caring.
Those who knew Lillian fondly remember her fierce "can-do" attitude. Her grit, determination and kind spirit certainly played a role in her attainment of almost 104 years of age. Lillian lived through the Great Depression, World Wars I and II, the moon landing, hippies (and the paper dresses worn by a daughter at that time), getting permanent waves, ironing and starching her husband's shirts, I Love Lucy, and four daughters who loved to push boundaries. Lillian enjoyed gardening and game shows, decaf coffee and hot chocolate, visiting coastal Maine, spending time with her beloved pets over the years, chatting with friends and neighbors, and all things Irish. The lessons she imparted on her family included such wisdom as, "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all" and "always keep $50 in your wallet for an emergency". Lillian's secret to longevity?—keep moving.

In keeping with Lillian's wishes, private services will be at the convenience of the family. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 100 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268 or to the charity of your choice.

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is handling the arrangements.
