Wilma Horton, 76, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.
Wilma was born in Gallatin County, on May 28, 1931, to the late Edward and Regina (McGrew) Keane. On May 3, 1947, she married T. Monroe Horton, who preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1993. On Sept. 30, 2000, she married Noah Horton Jr., who survives.
Wilma was a lifelong Christian woman serving the Lord as an active member of the Ridgway First Baptist Church. She was always faithful to be there for any dinner and to help each year with Vacation Bible School and any other church functions. Wilma and Noah Horton Jr. blessed many people through this area with their singing abilities. They could often be heard at churches, nursing homes, Golden Circles and the Baptist Hour program.
Wilma worked for many years at the Ridgway school as a cook. She later went to work at Blevins Popcorn Company and continued working for the National Oats Company until her retirement. Wilma will truly be missed by anyone who ever knew her as she was always smiling, happy and willing to help anyone in any way that she could. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, and was a caretaker for many aunts and uncles throughout the years.
In addition to her husband, Junior, and mother, Regina Frailey of Eldorado, she also leaves behind two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Gloria) Clark of Evansville, Ind. and Mrs. Stan (Brenda) Patton of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Brian Clark, Chris Goebel, Shelly Kenneth, Sara Poole and Paul Clark; eight great-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew she helped raise.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband and sister, Agnes Treat.
Visitation for Wilma will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jackson Cemetery. Her minister, the Rev. Rob Gallion, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
