He was the son of William Home 1800-1882 and Elizabeth Ann McNeill 1805-1851. He had 5 brothers and three sisters, and possibly two half sisters. John 1828-1890, Alexander D. 1831-1896, Daniel Dunglas 1833-1886, William Henry 1836-1917, Adam Pennycuick 1839-1856, Mary Anne McNeil 1841-1846, Elizabeth (twin) 1845-1858, Christina MacKenzie 1845-1907 (twin), Ellen 1854-, Mary 1856-1858. Colin arrived in New York from Scotland with his family in Sep of 1847. In 1850 he resided in Waterford, CT with his family who eventually moved to Greenville, Norwich, New London, CT. On 5 Nov 1885, in New York, NY, Colin married Lillian Edgecomb, by 1889 they were living in Newark, NJ. By 1894 Colin was employed in Michigan with the Manhattan Life Insurance Co, New York, he became known as a prominent life insurance man of Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. On 20 Jul 1899 in Wayne, Michigan Colin and Lillian were divorced. Colin died on 18 Oct 1903 Detroit, Wayne, Michigan at St. Vincent's Hospital conducted by the Sisters of Charity, a nurse's school, on the corner of Clinton and Antoine Streets which was founded by the Daughters of Charity in 1845, moved to its present site in 1850, renamed St. Mary's, charitable care of orphans, epidemic victims and the insane, served as a military hospital during the Civil War and Spanish American War, closed in 1949. It was noted that Colin Home was a prominent figure in the life insurance business in the city and state and was popular in and out of state, and had a host of friends.
