John Hoye, founder and president of Hoye Textiles Corp., Croton, died Wednesday at age 82. He lived at 102 Grand St., Croton.

Mr. Hoye was born Aug. 13, 1896 in England, a son of Thomas Edward and Sarah Ann McDonnell Hoye. He served in the King's Shropshire Right Regiment Infantry in World War I and was subjected to gas warfare while fighting in France.

Mr. Hoye was an instructor in the evening program of the New York Textile Trade School and was a contributor to the Encyclopedia Britannica on textile matters. He was the author of two textbooks, "Staple Cotton Products," and "Staple Cotton Fabrics Swatch Book."

Mr. Hoye was a member of the American Association of Textile Technologists, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, and the American Association for Testing Materials. He was a communicant of Holy Name of Mary Church, Croton.

Mr. Hoye is survived by his wife, the former Regina Byrne of the home address; a daughter, Laura R. Hoye of the home address; a son, John Jr., of 3 Kuney St., Croton; a brother, William Hoye of Queens; and three grandchildren.
