Folk Singer. Hamish Imlach was a Scottish folk singer who rose to prominence in Europe and abroad through his regular club performances, peace demonstrations, and his many albums on the XTRA record label. Imlach helped popularise songs such as "Black Is The Colour," "Sonny's Dream," and "Cod Liver Oil And The Orange Juice," a parody of "Virgin Mary Had a Little Baby." As a boy he had befriended at school future folk musicians Archie and Ray Fisher and shared their love of jazz and folk music. During the mid-century folk revival, he helped many other musicians find their way in the industry, such as Christy Moore and Billy Connolly. Other notable songs performed by Hamish included "MacPherson's Farewell," "Freedom Come All Ye," and "If It Wasn't For The Union." He was also invited to join The Dubliners. In later life, Hamish struggled with ill health and died just six weeks short of his fifty-sixth birthday. In 2012, he was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall Of Fame.
