Azel B Hamilton, native of New York, was b in town of Weston, in Schuyler Co., in 1820; third child in a family of ten; parents Zane and Sylvia (Putnam) Hamilton, of English origin in the very early days in NY; Gen Charles S Hamilton, of Milwaukee, is a brother of A B; studied law with his maternal uncle, US Senator Putnam, of attica, NY, and subsequently under a paternal uncle, Judge Hamilton of Schoharie Co, NY and later in the office of Judge Cheever of Albany; admitted to the practice of the law, Oct 28, 1842 and practised there until 1848, when he moved to Dartford, Wisconsin, the County Seat of Green Lake Co.; resided there till 1861, when he moved to Ripon and remained until his death April 13, 1878; m Caroline Mesick of Albany, Sept 1, 1846; death due to paralysis, having been in failing health for some years; a Republican; twice District Attorney while at Dartford and was US Commissioner while at Ripon; attorney for the C M & St P Ry; three children: Margaret Henrietta and Frank both of Ripon, with Henry T Mesick, the eldest, deceased April 5, 1881.
