Her Obit stated:
This decease of this good old lady has caused universal regret. She, with her surviving partner, daughter and son have resided in this place over two years - and by the exhibition of the varied kind offices, peculiar to the wife, mother, and christian, she had endeared herself to a large circle of friends, who tearfully offer a heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives, thus called upon to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Steuben was one on those women who live to adorn her sex. For 26 consecutive years she was a true and devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Her household for that period was trained in the exercise of all the domestic virtues indispensable to make worthy members of society. No man whose heart is less than adamantine can fail to evince a deep sympathy for the loss to society and friends of a true woman, whose head was silvered in the performance of those duties that works the sure broad basis of cherished human hopes, prosperity and happiness. If the proud daughters of America never fall short of her accomplishments, happiness would permeate every grade of society and float upon every breeze. Peace to thy ashes - mother.
