Alexander "Alex" Battle was born on May 9, 1865 in Antioch, Davidson County, Tennessee, the son of Sharper Battle (ca 1820– ) and Jane (Watson) Battle (ca 1826– ).

Married 1st about 1887 to Nanie -- , he was a widower and living in Guthrie, Todd County, Kentucky when he married 2nd about 1901 to Winnie -- (about 1875– ). As of the 1910 census, Winnie had no children of her own.

Working for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, Alex signed his last will & testament on April 4, 1911, and in that will he named his wife Winnie, daughter Viola and son Ira. Alex was 46 years old, married and living in Guthrie when he died of tuberculosis on June 28, 1911. Burial was two days later in State Line Cemetery, just across the Kentucky/Tennessee border in Montgomery County, Tennessee.

Much of the above is from his Death Certificate with Henry Battle {quite possibly an elder brother} of Antioch as the informant.

Known children of Alex and his 1st wife Nanie:
~ Elbert Battle (7 May 1889–1 Jun 1908) died in Georgetown, King County, Washington

~ Viola Smith Battle (28 Mar 1895–1 Aug 1939) married Clarence Starks
