From the book Diggin' Up Bones by Betty Barnes:
Walter H. Becker, 87, former Garden City resident, died Wednesday, March 5, 1980, at Ft. Lyons Veterans Hospital, Las Animas, Colo.
Born June 2, 1892, at Sylvan Grove, Mr. Becker was a career military man.
He had been at Ft. Lyons for 26 years and then had lived in Garden City for some time with his brother, Otto, and nephew, Victor, at 416 Magnolia. Mr. Becker had returned to Ft. Lyons four years ago and had lived there since.
A World War I veteran, he was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Survivors include five chldren and his nephew.
Graveside service was held at the Deerfield Cemetery, the Rev. Merlin Reith officiating.
