MONTROSE -- Gloria A. Mick, age 55, of Montrose, died Monday morning, Jan. 21, 2002, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose.Gloria A. Valdez was born in Del Norte, Colo., on Nov. 26, 1946, the daughter of Bonnie Valdez and Mary (Archuleta) Valdez. At the age of 3, Gloria moved with her family from Del Norte to Olathe, Colo., where she spent the remainder of her childhood years, received her education, and grew to adulthood.
She relocated from Olathe to Montrose in 1966 where she lived the remainder of her lifetime.
On Aug. 15, 1967, she was united in marriage with LeRoy Mick. They were married for 30 years when their marriage ended in divorce.
Prior to her illness, Gloria worked for housekeeping at the Montrose Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.
Her favorite pastime was crocheting. Gloria was a very caring person and very giving to others who needed a helping hand. She often opened her home to the homeless, pregnant mothers in need or children with problems at home. Gloria held a very special and irreplaceable place in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply and sadly missed.
Surviving family members who were privileged and blessed to share Gloria's life include one son, Vincent Mick, of Montrose; her mother, Mary Valdez, of Olathe; two brothers: Alphonso Valdez and wife Mary, of Montrose; Alonso Valdez and wife Pat, of Rapid City, S.D.; and two sisters: Molly and husband Rick Moulton, of Montrose; and Diane and husband Ralph Duarte, of Grand Junction.
Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Bonnie Valdez.
A memorial service in loving remembrance and to celebrate Gloria's life will be officiated by Pastor John Mocko on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Crippin Chapel. The service will conclude at the chapel.
Cremation has taken place and private family inurnment will be held in the Olathe Cemetery at Olathe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Vincent Mick, In Memory of Gloria Mick, 636 S. Nevada Ave., Montrose, CO 81401.
