Anna married Maurice Burnell on January 22, 1927 in Aurora and spent their early years farming in the Burlington area until they purchased a farm in rural Elgin and lived there until Maurice passed away.
Throughout her life, Anna was an excellent seamstress and was involved in 4-H clubs; St. Edward High School Mothers Club, St. Mary's Women's Club at St. Mary's Church where she was a Parishioner until the time of her death.
Anna is survived by seven children, Gladys (Merv) Schmitt of McHenry, Maurine (Donald) Weberpal of Sycamore, Elizabeth (Ronald) Davis of Elgin, Charles (Mary) Burnell of Elgin, Judy (Edward) Hahn of Geneva, Linda (Gerald) Reinert of Bartlett, and Dori Tucker of South Elgin. She is also survived by 42 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice in 1984; one daughter, Leona Arlene Follis in 2006; her parents; three sisters, Lena Weiss, Agnes Poss, and Gertrude Hankes; one brother, Clarence Grommes; and three great-grandchildren in infancy.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 400 Fulton St., Elgin, IL 60120, with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., (Rt. 31), Elgin IL 60123, 847-741-8800, and on Monday at the church from 9:15 A.M. until the mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 397 Fulton St., Elgin, IL or a charity of ones choice.
