"Col." Corydon E. Cooley of Ft Apache Arizona
"Half-breed"
Of the White Mountain Apaches
Younger brother Charley
"Lillie (daughter of C. E. Cooley) told us is that White Mountain Apache Chief Alchesay wanted his son Baha to attend the Indian school in New Mexico. He asked C. E. Cooley if he would send his sons Fred and Charlie with him. Cooley agreed to take the boys himself as well as many other White Mountain Apache children to the boarding school. A few weeks later Fred contracted measles, which turned into pneumonia. He died before the family could be notified of his illness. Lillie said that her mother took it real bad. For a long time she would go to where Fred had hung his coat at home and run her hands over it and cry. Lillie said that Mollie mourned him for a long time."
