(headline) E.B. Alexander Died This Morning

"At the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.K. Dixon, Monday morning at 2:30 o'clock, Mr E.B. Alexander-'Uncle Rufe' as he is known to most of the people of Jacksonville, passed away after an illness of several days duration. Mr. Alexander passed his 80th birthday last summer.

He was a native of Tennessee having been born there on August 18 1834. From Tennessee he moved to Mississippi thence to Texas and settled in old Jacksonville. His brother, C.H. Alexander, accompanied him to Texas and also settled at the same place.

Mr. Alexander was married in '61 to Miss Mary Ann Sophronia Ewing. The young couple moved to Larissa where they resided for many years. Mrs. Alexander preceded her husband to the grave by some 17 years.

Mr. Alexander is survivied by five of his children, namely: M.P. and S.Z. Alexander, Mrs. A.K. Dixon, of this place, R.B. Alexander of Weatherford and J.B. Alexander of San Antonio; also F.L. Ewing who lives in Tyler and who was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Alexander from the age of seven months.

The funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A.K. Dixon and interment was made at the Larissa cemetery.

Mr. Alexander has lived a long life and leaves as a heritage to his children and grandchildren the exemplification of the qualities that make for a live of honesty, good citizenship and usefulness."

Thanks to Rebecca Ewing Peterson for the following information:

"The reference to "F L Ewing" in the Obituary is a typo. Elias and Sophronia raised the youngest child of her brother Finis Ewing after his 2nd wife died. The boy's name was Samuel Alexander "Sank" Ewing."
