S. Florida Pioneer, 90, Dies


WEST PALM BEACH - Dolphin Davis Hamilton, 90, a pioneer merchant-farmer and widely-known outdoorsman in south Florida, died Sunday in West Palm Beach.


Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Mizelle-Faville-Zern Mortuary Chapel here. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.


Born in Taylor County, Ga., Hamilton came to Florida in 1900. Through six decades, he and members of his family were involved in truck and citrus farming, retail stores, cattle and land development over much of the state.


He was a skilled horseman and noted hunter.


He was the father of Edgar G. Hamilton, prominent local attorney and U.S. Commissioner for Palm Beach County.


Other survivors are sons John W. Hamilton and Alonzo W. Hamilton of Deerfield, Alan T. Hamilton of West Palm Beach, and D.D. Hamilton Jr., an investigator for the state comptroller's office; daughters Mrs. George Dumont of Sebring, and Mrs. Clyde Bell of Palm Beach County.
