She was born Nov. 13, 1945, in Evansville, Ind., to John and Edna (Garner) Mott. She married John J. Stewart on Nov. 15, 1963 in Charleston, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2006.
Wanda was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Jefferson County.
She is survived by her mother, Edna Garner of Nason; a daughter, Nikki Mellott and husband David of Mount Vernon; four sons, Jay Stewart and wife Pam of Virden, John "Bill" Stewart and wife Melissa of Bluford, Jim Stewart and wife Lisa of Nason and Jody Stewart and wife Tiffanie of Mount Vernon; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Closise Garner of Jefferson County and Charles "Shag" Garner, Clothel Garner and Terry Garner, all of Lexington, Tenn.; and three sisters, Dorothy Pierce and husband Roy of Sesser, Belinda Garner of Lexington, Tenn. and Norma Jean Hays and husband Terry of Lexington, Tenn.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her father; husband; daughter, Shannon Stewart; brothers, Jesse James Garner and Daniel "Boone" Garner; and sister, Droenda Cupples.
Wanda was a loving mother, devoted wife, awesome grandmother, whose compassion and care for others made this world a better place to be. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She was a member of the Honeycomb Church of God in Karbers Ridge.
