CHARLES EDWARD NEWMAN

    Funeral services for Charles Eward Newman were held on Friday, Oct. 30 (1959) from the Wolfe Funeral Home with the Rev. E. T. Bodwell officiating.  The soloist, Mrs. Carolyn Harris was accompanied by Mrs. Mabel Dunn in the following selections. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "No Disappointment in Heaven".

    Flower bearers were Mrs. Sarah Rider and Mrs. Otto Heard.  Pallbearers included the following: Herb Burtz, Floyd Agnew, Robert Cozad, Martin McMahon, Otto Heard and Harold Everett.  Concluding services and interment was in Arlington Cemetery.

   Charles Edward Newman, son of Henry and Mary Haley Newman was born April 29, 1885, near Sciola, Iowa and passed away Oct. 28, 1959, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, (Iowa), following an illness of three weeks, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 29 days.

    When a young man he moved with his parents to Almont, North Dakota where he resided for three years.  While there he was united in marriage to Miss Bessie Newman, April 13, 1912.  She and an infant child passed away the following year.  Later he returned to Nodaway (Iowa) where he has since resided.  "Mike" as he was familiarly known, had a large circle of friends in Nodaway and will be greatly missed in the community.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Lelie, Del, Phillip and Bernard.  He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Branan of Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Jessie Gray of Cheyenne, Wyo., two brothers-in-law, Clate Branan and Emmit Gray.
