Bakersville, N.C. - Alfred Woody, 70, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008, in Asheville.

He was a native of Mitchell County and was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Carrie Buchanan Woody.

He was the Owner/Operator of Woody Construction Company, a former employee of the Tennessee Electric Company in Kingsport Tenn., the former Fire Chief of the Bakersville Fire Department, most recently the Chief of the Ledger Fire Department and a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife, Eula Pitman Woody, of Bakersville; daughter, Kathy Woody Young and husband, Mike, of Bakersville; sons, Mark Woody and Matthew Woody, both of Bakersville; five sisters, Lucille Burleson, of Johnson City, Tenn., Sue Greene and Mattie Styles, both of Bakersville, Barbara Taylor and Gail Fowler, both of Johnson City; one brother, Charles Woody, of Bakersville; three grandchildren, Christopher, Amber, and David.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Greene, Pearl Peterson, Shirley McCray, Beryl Bennett; and brother, Zeb Woody.

The funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Bear Creek Baptist Church. Chris Rathbone will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends

from 5 p.m. until the service hour at the Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the the Bear Creek Cemetery, where the Ledger Fire Department will assist in the service.
