Arvil Thomas Blankenship, 79, a life-long resident of the Elk Valley area, died Friday afternoon at the LaFollette Medical Center.

He was a retired coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers Union and a member of Stanfield Baptist Church.

The funeral was Monday at the Stanfield Baptist Church in Elk Valley with the Revs. Leo Williams and C.B. Russell officiating. Burial was in the Warren Memorial Gardens. Martin's Funeral Home in LaFollette was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Odessa Blankenship of Pioneer; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Stephens of Pioneer and Mrs. Dorothy Bacon of Rockville, Ind.; two brothers, Earl Blankenship of Georgia and Nobel Blankenship of Mountain Home, Idaho; two half-brothers, Walter Blankenship of Oneida and Bill Blankenship; four sisters, Chloe Smith of Knoxville, Nell Dobson of Potts, Ky., Edna Chesser of Harlan, Ky., and Mable Gibson of Jacksboro; and four grandchildren.
