Mrs. S.M. Brown died in a retreat in Des Moines, where she had been a patient for several weeks, on Saturday, 19 Jul 1919. Daughter of Thomas Jefferson Beer and Deborah Beer, she was born 18 Nov 1855 in Van Buren Co, IA. She lived in Van Buren Co all of her lie except 1 year in Dakota. She was united in marriage to Sylvanus McClain Brown on 24 Oct 1877, who survives her. To this union were born 3 sons and 1 daughter; John M; Otto L; William A; and Mary D (infant death). She is survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters; COL Beer, Kingsburg, CA; Butler Beer, Des Moines, IA; Mrs. William Taylor, Kersey, CO; and Mrs. Waitman Robinson, Bonaparte, IA. About 20 years agao, she united with the Keosauqua Christian Church and in her earlier life was a member of the M.E. Church. Funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church by the pastor, J.M. Hedges, Tuesday, 22 Jul 1919, at 2PM, and interment made in Purdom Cemetery.
