Whilst the Battalion was in the line north of Viller Bretonneux during the months of April and May his Bravery with this respect was most marked and won for him the highest admiration of Officers and the confidence of his comrades. His Soldierly qualities were again brought to the forefront during the successful action at Peronne.
On the 1/9/1918 his coolness and energy under heavy Military Gun and shell fire so cheered and inspired his comrades that the operation was helped to a great degree by his personal example.
