Eleanor (Gorsuch) Abdo, age 105, of Sylvania Ohio, a descendant of pioneer families and a trailblazer in her own right, died on August 31, 2021. Born May 30, 1916 to Robert and Nora (Ledyard) Gorsuch, her childhood was spent on the family farm in Wauseon. Unlike her siblings who all stayed close to the homestead, Eleanor struck out on her own. Eschewing the farm life of cows and cornfields, she moved to the city and established herself as a professional career woman when few single women so chose. Possessing good taste and an eye for art, she took up painting, sewing, and interior design. In mid-life she met and married her charming and debonair husband, Maurice Abdo. Together, they enjoyed travel, entertaining, and the finer things in life, splitting their time between homes in Toledo and Vero Beach, Florida.
After Maurice's death in 1989, she returned to the single life and again prided herself on her independence. Enjoying lunches with friends and a good margarita, she drove her own car well into her 90's and maintained her own residence until the age of 103. Blessed with good health her entire life, she was a true "cognitive super ager" -- as sharp at 105 as she was at 75.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; and brothers, Wayne and Calvin Gorsuch. She is survived by her sister, Virginia (Gorsuch) Busch; stepdaughter, Christine (Abdo) Cremean; nephews and nieces, Scott Gorsuch, Dennis Busch, Kim Gorsuch, Lisa Busch, Dave Busch, Lori (Busch) Cain, and Duane Bush; great-nephews, Brandon Schantz and Brady Gorsuch; step- grandchildren, Matthew Cremean, Brian Cremean, Douglas (Abdo) Holben, and Adrienne (Abdo) Holben; and friend/neighbor Stacey Kralovic.
A special thank you to Charter Senior Living of Oak Openings and Hospice of NW Ohio for their support.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave., where a memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
