bio: "John Allison was the son of Obediah and Jemima Burt Allison and was born in 1838 in Columbiana County, Ohio, coming to Bennington township, Morrow County in 1844. His mother died in 1838. He was a soldier of the Civil War, responding to Lincoln's call for 75,000 troops. His life was spent as a farmer and wool dealer. His wife was Mary A Vail who passed away in 1897 when 54 years of age.

He lived 32 years longer, reached the ripe old age of 94, a modest and typical country gentleman of high character and distinguished presence. He was one of the oldest Free Masons in the county, having united with Chester Lodge in 1859, and was an active trustee of Bloomfield cemetery for many years. He was a first cousin of William McKinley, president of the US, whose mother Nancy C Allison was a sister of Obediah, father of John."
