Sarah Almaretta Schroeder was the youngest daughter of Dr. Morris Montefiore Ancona and Mary Ann Ancona, nee Knapp. Dr Ancona was a medical doctor and his wife Mary was a midwife. As a young adult Sarah lived in Alsace Township in Berks County. Jacob Schroeder, who was to become her husband lived in Exeter township just a few miles away from the Ancona home.
