"The starter on his car was out of order when Samuel, who had just finished dinner at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Tom Travis, 621 Second avenue, attempted to drive to his home at 29 Cutler street. He was unable to start the machine and Jim Brackett, 625 Second avenue, lent a hand in pushing the machine, while Travis steered it. The car zig-zagged across the street and ran into the curb. Brackett called to Travis, asking what had happened. Receiving no reply he walked to the front of the machine and found Travis had fallen across the steering wheel. He attempted to rouse him and failing, summoned Dr. L. H. Fligman, who had been treating the man for a heart ailment, from which he suffered the past six months, since the death of his wife. The physician pronounced him dead." (Helena Independent, 11/21/1931)
His funeral was held at the Opp and Conrad Chapel, with Dr. D. B. Price preaching the sermon. Two daughters, one residing in Minneapolis, the other in San Diego, California, survived him. (Helena Independent, 11/24/1931) He shares a tombstone with Sadie. Buried in the Masonic Section, Row 7.
