A Celebration of A.J. Sunday's Life, age 86, of Robinson, Texas, will be 2pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas
Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Texas.
Visitation will be from 6~9pm on Friday, April 12, 2024 at the Funeral Home.
AJ passed away on April 4, 2024 at his home in Robinson, Texas.
AJ was born on April 21, 1938 in Mangham, Louisiana to Austin Whitman (AW) and Cleoria Sunday Pietrosky.
Growing up outside of Houston, AJ's passion for building things and his thirst for knowledge were evident from a young age.
A true embodiment of the United States Marine Corps ethnos, AJ served his country with honor and distinction. He retired from the United States Marine Corps after 24 years of service.
His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he became a member of the Downsville Baptist Church community, where his faith and kindness touched the lives of many.
AJ's insatiable curiosity knew no bounds. Whether he was tinkering in his workshop or delving into the depths of a new subject, his enthusiasm for learning was contagious. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, unwavering dedication and a relentless pursuit of knowledge that will continue to inspire.
AJ liked to hunt and work in his garden. He loved the time he spent with his family.
AJ is survived by his sons, Jay Sunday and wife Kathy of Waco, Texas and George Ware and wife Pamela of Livingston, Texas, his daughters, Connie Wilson and husband Gary of Texas City, Texas, Cindy Self of Texas City, Texas, Kathy Smith and husband Hugh of North Carolina and Genessia Campbell and husband Michael of Cleveland, Texas, his brothers, Leon Sunday and wife Sharon of Colmesneil, Texas and Royce Sunday and wife Cathy of Houston, Texas, numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, AW and Cleoria Sunday, his wife, Virginia Ann Sunday, his brother, George Sunday, his half-brother, Johnny Stought and his sisters, Dorothy Morgan and Joyce Couch.
