In 1788, this Col. Snidow established "Snidow's Ferry" over New River. He built a house for he and Mary on the hillside to the west of Snidow's Ferry.

Phillip Snidow and Barbara Prillaman are Col. Snidow's grandparents.

The Christian Snidow born 2 May 1787 who died 31 Dec 1861 is the son of Phillip Snidow and Barbara Prillaman. He was married in 1809 to Sarah Turner (b. 1788, d. 1874). One of Christian and Sarah's children, Barbara, married Christian Lewis Snidow, the youngest son of Col. Snidow and Mary).

Son of John Jacob and Elizabeth Helm Snidow,
was born 15 March 1760 in Lancaster County, PA.

He is known to descendants as Col. Christian Snidow from his service in the Virginia Militia. As a young man, he was very active in early border defence. He served during the American Revolution as a lieutenant in Capt. John Floyd's Co,of the Virginia Militia, commanding Snidow's Fort, and assisting at Barger's and Hatfield's Forts

On Aug. 24, 1784 he married Mary Burk of Montgomery Co., Va. Col. Christian was one of the first Justices of the Peace of Giles County, a sheriff and represented the county several times in the Virginia House of Delagates. Col. Christian and Mary Snidow lived and reared their eight children in Giles Co. Mary died 5-5-1825 and Christian on 9-17-1836, both are buried in the Horseshoe Cemetery at Pembroke, Virginia

daughter of Isaac and Elizn Johnston Chapman, and granddaughter of John and Sallie Abbott Chapman.

m. 2-26-1801 John Peck, son of Benjamin and Margaret (Carper) Peck, who was considered one of the richest men in Giles Co. at that time. John and Elizabeth Peck had twelve children.

3. Clara Snidow b. 4-23-1790
m. 7-20-1809 Conrad Peters (1786-1837),
son of Chrisrian and Anna Katherine (Fudge) Peters of Monroe, (W)Va. They had thirteen children.

m. 8-6-1812 Benjamin Peck b. 9-7-1783, d. 11-23-1840,
son of Benjamin and Margaret (Carper) Peck.

6. William Henry Snidow b. 1798 d. 10-7-1866
m. 3-17-1836 Adeline Chapman (1812 to 10/27/1872), daughter of John and Ann (Freel) Chapman. He became a Colonel during the War Between the States. He and his son John, like his father, served Giles County many years in the Virginia House of Delegates.

7. Mary Burk Snidow b. 3-2-1800, d. 2-21-1839 m. 5-22-1819 Major (War 1812) Henry Walker (1792- post 1860), son of Capt. Henry and Martha (Woods) Walker.

8. Sara Snidow m. 4-12-1827 William Haven Bane, one of the twelve children of James and Elizabeth (Haven) Bane, Jr. of Walkers Creek.

m. 2-7-1838 Barbara Snidow, daughter of Christian (the Blacksmith) Snidow, son of Philip Snidow. They had two children.
