She was best known to television viewers as Julia Newman, the wife of Eric Braeden's longtime character Victor Newman, on the popular daytime soap opera "The Young and the Restless" from the 1980s to 2020. Born Helen Margaret Bennett, she moved to New York to pursue acting after graduating from Northwestern University. She later appeared in the Broadway production of "Grease" in 1972, playing the role of Marty Maraschino. She began her long run in daytime soaps two years later with a turn as Liza Walton on CBS' "Search for Tomorrow," where Kevin Kline and Morgan Fairchild were castmates. From there, she moved on to "The Young and the Restless," where she played Julia Martin, a role that was featured on the long-running soap in appearances over four decades. She later went into writing scripts for various popular soap operas such as "The Young and the Restless," "Santa Barbara," and "General Hospital." Her work brought her various awards and honors during her career, including a 1995 Daytime Emmy for Best Writing.
