Homer Clay was born on June 22, 1920, in Peggs, Oklahoma, to Thomas and Ella Mae (Gabbard) Clay. He departed this life on Thursday, April 13, 2006, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 yrs, 9 months, and 21 days. Homer grew up and attended schools in Peggs and Locust Grove, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942, serving during World War ll. Homer and Lucy (England) Clay were united in marriage for over 38 yrs. Lucy preceded Homer in death on December 31, 1979. Homer was a lifetime resident of the Peggs and Locust Grove area, having moved to Locust grove from Peggs at the age of 9. He helped to build the Locust Grove Full Gospel Church, Where he was a member, and had also held the Sunday school Superintendent position for several years. Homer enjoyed farming and driving on his tractor. He loved working with his pigs, cows, and chickens. He also had worked as a carpenter and sheet rocker. Homer also liked fishing, eating beans and cornbread, and smoking Prince Alberts. Homer is survived by one daughter, Shawnna, 2 step daughters, Ronnie, and Wanda,, 6 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 1 daughter; Rebecca Clay; 2 sisters; Flossie Dodson and Loma Yancy. Funeral services were held 10:00 am, Monday, April 17, 2006, at Locust Grove Full Gospel Church with reverend Mildred Hutchinson officiating. Internment followed at the McClain Cemetery. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
