EMMA BANKS AUBERT
Emma Banks was born in Elizabethtown, Indiana, April 4th, 1850; died at her home July 18, 1906. Aged 56 years 3 months and 14 days.
At the age of nineteen she was converted and united with the Christian Church. Later her membership was placed with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which she remained a faithful member until her death.
On August 30, 1869, in Columbus, Indiana, she was united in marriage to Chas. W. Aubert with whom, a month later, she came to Warren county, Iowa, where they have since resided. To this union were born eight children. One was called home in infancy. Seven are left with their father to mourn her loss. Only four of the seven children were privileged to look into the mother's face as death sealed her eyes forever, three having gone from home to try their fortunes in the frozen gold fields of Alaska.
For several years this mother has been a great sufferer but bore everything with a Christian fortitude that showed her firm faith in her Saviour. During her last illness she conversed freely of Heavenly things with the family and friends, many times expressing a desire to go, saying she was ready. A few hours before death came she called her youngest son to her bedside; after praying earnestly to her Father she said, "I am with my Jesus." Her work was done, and then at peace she awaited the summons home.
The funeral services were held in the M.E. Church at Spring Hill, by her pastor, Rev. W.C. Smith in the presence of a large number of neighbors and friends. The body was laid to rest in the Webb Cemetery.
