Bertha Mays was the youngest daughter of Abner Mays and Anna Morris who were born in South Carolina.They came to Texas in 1865. She was born blind, but she had a normal and long life. She never married, but she was a good cook and housekeeper. She lived most of her life near Pickton, Hopkins County, Texas, but went to the nursing home in Sulphur Springs several years before her death after her older sister and life time companion, Lucy Mays Gay, died.
